[McAllen, Texas — October 27, 2026] — Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley (WFS) and Workforce Solutions Cameron (WFSC) brought together over 100 regional leaders, employers, educators, economic development professionals, and community partners for the State of the Regional Workforce Conference, an initiative focused on strengthening collaboration and preparing the Rio Grande Valley workforce for the evolving needs of the regional economy.

Held under the theme “Leading the Workforce Ecosystem. Building a Stronger Rio Grande Valley,” the conference created a forum for stakeholders to examine the economic forces shaping the region, discuss current and emerging workforce challenges, and explore opportunities to better align workforce development with industry needs.

The conference featured discussions on the evolution of the Rio Grande Valley economy, regional investment and economic development, artificial intelligence and the future of work, and employer perspectives on talent recruitment, retention, and changing skill requirements. A facilitated regional discussion encouraged participants to identify shared priorities and consider collaborative approaches to strengthening the region’s talent pipeline.

“The future of the Rio Grande Valley depends on our ability to work together, understand the needs of our employers, and prepare our residents for the opportunities ahead. By bringing our regional partners to the same table, we can strengthen the connection between education, workforce development, and economic growth while helping more people build meaningful careers,” said Francisco Almaraz, chief executive officer of Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley.

The conference reflects a shared commitment by WFS and WFSC to advance a coordinated regional approach to workforce development. By connecting the perspectives of businesses, educators, economic development organizations, workforce professionals, and community partners, the two organizations aim to strengthen the systems that prepare workers and support employers throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

“Our region is stronger when we approach workforce challenges as shared challenges and recognize that collaboration is essential to long-term success. By bringing together the people and organizations that shape our economy, we can identify common priorities, respond to changing industry demands, and expand opportunities for workers and businesses across the Rio Grande Valley,” said Rafael Vela, chief executive officer of Workforce Solutions Cameron.

The conference also underscored the importance of preparing the regional workforce for technological change, including the growing influence of artificial intelligence, while ensuring employers have access to the talent and skills they need to remain competitive.

Through this joint effort, WFS and WFSC reaffirm their commitment to building stronger partnerships, encouraging innovation, and advancing workforce strategies that support regional prosperity.
