Parts of the Rio Grande Valley saw an increase in unemployment rates for the month of June this year.
Unemployment specialists attribute the spike to the start of the summer season.
"Seasonally, we expect a spike and this is always attributed to the school systems," said Miguel Gonzalez of Texas Workforce Solutions. "You have people getting out on summer break – there are temporary layoff and support staff."
