MCALLEN, Texas - McAllen Public Library, in partnership with Workforce Solutions, invites the public to Job Fair 2019 on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the McAllen Public Library, located at 4301 N. 23rd Street. Attendees will get to connect with employers from several different companies, fill out printed and online applications, and have onsite interviews. Attendees should bring updated resumes and dress interview ready.

“The City of McAllen prospers when we all prosper and having a good job is key to making that happen,” said McAllen Mayor Jim Darling.  “Partnering with Workforce Solutions to host this job fair helps our community and residents to become a part of our area’s workforce, contribute to our local economy and just as importantly, provide individuals with a job to provide for themselves and their family a bright future.”

McAllen Public Library hopes the job fair will act as a “one-stop shop” for people to gather and network for the future, offering face-to-face communication with employers, a computer lab for online applications, and a centrally-located facility with public transportation accessible by McAllen Transit to empower the community.

PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) was presented with a Jobs and Education for Texas (JET) Grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) at the City of Pharr’s State of the City Address held at the Pharr Events Center on Thursday, Jan. 17. To date, PSJA ISD has been awarded a total of $834,583 in TWC Jet grants during the last three consecutive years, making it the only school district in Texas to do so.

Since JET grants first became available to independent school districts entered into partnerships with higher education institutions in 2016, PSJA ISD has been the only public school district awarded grants each year to expand dual credit career and technical educational opportunities with its long-time partner South Texas College.

“PSJA ISD has been the only school district in Texas to receive JET grants for equipment,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez at the 2019 State of the City of Pharr held Thursday, Jan. 17. “We want to acknowledge every member of the PSJA School Board and Dr. King who have been involved throughout this process.”

McALLEN — South Texas College and many of its industry partners are kicking off the new year with three grants totaling nearly $1 million for workforce training.

The $974,665 total was divided in three grants from the Texas Workforce Commission all aimed at advanced training for three specific areas.

“ What’s fantastic is that all of them are in high-demand industries,” said Commissioner Ruth Hughs, TWC chair, who was present to sign the checks on Friday. “Because we only invest in education training in high-demand industries so that those students who are getting those skills will be set up for success.”

The Jobs and Education for Texans grant, known as JEP, provided the college with $249,096 for the purchase of state-of-the art equipment for STC’s Computer Information Technology program such as cyber security and computer networking.
